Britain's Fishery Stew - the Chagos Gumbo

thank you for your attention.

It's True...

It is true; the world has a serious fishery problem. But sadly Europe, you, and yes you United Kingdom too, are a very very big part of it.

Europe, United Kingdom, Britain… You’ve got serious issues with your fisheries in your own home waters and with your far flung fleet. You are causing trouble on foreign fishing grounds. Your over-bloated industry is running rampant, beggaring the global commons and the other peoples that depend on them. Your fleets pilfer for their own near term profits, fishing the seas illegally beyond laws, logic, and reason; scoffing at limits both biological and bargained. Your avaricious appetites are never appeased; they only seem to grow year after year.

Britain’s establishment of the Chagos Marine Protected Area in the far off Indian Ocean could have been noble in principal in light of the big picture of protecting the world’s seas. But things get murky just below the surface. Light gets scattered and does funny things – coming is going and past is future; light gets bent. Problems at home shouldn’t preclude doing good deeds abroad, but issues with the Chagos MPA are so kiltered askew that it’s like a gang of raging Alcoholics are crowing with pride about closing the bar at an Italian restaurant in someone else’s city.

Britain, it’s not too late to do the right thing. Fix your own fishery stew and make the Chagos Gumbo hearty and healthy within a clean and tidy kitchen instead of the backstreet rubbish bin it’s been brewed in so far.

"This should be required reading! After hearing the conservationists going on about the Chago MPA, speaking out against the Chagossians' return... knowing this stuff now, it just turns my stomach! There's a lot there [on the Fishery Stew Website] but every part of it is worth seeing..." - anonymous comment on reviewing Britain's Fishery Stew website

Britain's Fishery Stew: the Chagos Gumbo -

The Height of Hypocrisy,

Sowing the Seeds of Severest Cynicism,

Conning Conservation and doing Disservice to Science...

!!!
To those unable to discern, yes, this website is written with a degree of  scathing irony . It has a tongue-in-cheek style  meant to emphasize its very real and serious issues: the plight of the Chagossian people and the state of world fisheries.
Statements made and facts presented are sound and real.
